Calendar and Timeline

Below is a timeline beginning with the "current" school year. The timeline lists the major UBMS-related events so that students and parents know what to expect in the application and selection process. The timeline is followed by specific dates for the next few years assuming that funding for the UBMS program continues.

    August-September
The school year begins ...
(Applicants are currently in grades 9 - 11.)

    October-November
UBMS application packets are mailed to Counselors, head math teachers, and head science teachers in targeted high schools.

    December-January
Completed applications are accepted by UBMS for the following summer session.

    February-March
Applications are evaluated by UBMS staff.
Invitations issued for Orientation.

    April
Orientation for first-time applicants and parents. Participants are given pre-tests and interviews, and meet other applicants and some staff members.
Bridge students choose classes for summer enrollment.

    May
UBMS staff reviews all application materials, pre-tests, and interviews.

    June-July
UBMS holds 6-week summer session ("first" of June to "middle" of July"; exact dates change each year).
Bridge session ends about end of June.

Fall Update form mailed to participants.
Participants start on mentor meetings and projects.

    October
1st mentor report form due to UBMS by Oct. 15.
1st installment of academic year stipend earned.

    November-January
Participants apply for another UBMS summer session.
(December 31 is Bridge application deadline; January 31 is deadline for 2nd year application.)

    January
2nd Mentor report due to UBMS.
2nd installment of stipend earned.

    February-March
Applications, mentor reports, and progress on projects reviewed.
Invitations for 2nd year of UBMS or for Bridge issued.

    April
Bridge students choose classes for summer enrollment.

    May
3rd mentor report due to UBMS.
Final project report due to UBMS.
3rd installment of stipend earned.
Mentor's stipend earned.

    June-July
UBMS /Bridge summer session

If a 3rd year is appropriate, calendar will be like the 2nd year.

Sat., April 4, 2009 - Orientation
Sun., April 12 - Easter
Sat., June 6 - UBMS & Bridge move in
Fri., July 3 - Bridge goes home
Sat., July 4 - Parents' Weekend
Sat., July 18 - Awards, UBMS goes home

For 2009-2010:

Sun., April 4, 2010 - Easter
Sat., April 10 - Orientation
Sat., June 5 - UBMS & Bridge move in
