About the
UB Math & Science Program ...
The Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) Regional Center at Northwest Missouri State University is an educational program funded entirely by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Northwest's grant was written to serve high school students living in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri.
The mission for Northwest's UBMS program is "to generate and maintain in participants the skills and motivation necessary to succeed in a program of post-secondary education that leads to a career in the fields of math and science."
UBMS at Northwest works toward this goal using a strategy designed to expose participants to a variety of math and science enrichment topics not usually encountered in the regular high school curriculum, all at no cost to the students. This is not a remedial program, so UBMS expects that participants will complete math and science courses in high school and pursue degree programs related to math or science in post-secondary education institutions.
