| STARR
(Select Teachers As Regional Resources) is a state-level professional
development program which began in 1994. STARR teachers provide training
to help teachers use authentic instruction, performance-based assessment,
brain research, multiple intelligences, cooperative learning, and many
other educational topics to promote learning using Missouri's new academic
performance standards as a guideline.
Each year a new group of 27 STARR teachers is selected
from school district applicants throughout the state.
After a year of preparation, STARR teachers take a one-year
leave form their districts and report to one of nine RPDC's located
at university sites. Two STARR teachers are available at each RPDC
to conduct free seminars and workshops for schools, school districts,
pre-service teachers, and other groups.
STARR teachers can serve you by:
Providing demonstration lessons
Leading seminars at your school site
Serving as ongoing consultants
