Scholarships

The Department of Mass Communication has many scholarships and awards for returning students, and also specifically for first-time students. You can find out more about these opportunities in the scholarship booklet available from the Office of Scholarships and Financial Assistance.

Christine Galitz Memorial Scholarship
in memory of Gertrude Widmer
Description: Awarded to a senior journalism major with a 3.00 GPA who has served on editorial board for two student publications. These publications include: Northwest Missourian, Tower yearbook and Heartland View online magazine. Recipient shall be on the editorial board of a student publication in the year the award is received, show financial need, and submit an essay titled, "Why I Appreciate My Journalism Degree from Northwest."

Dustin McCurdy Memorial Scholarship

The successful candidate will be determined by the following criteria:
1. Must be a full-time, broadcasting major
2. First preference will be given to the individual working in KZLX radio station at time of application; second preference will be given to individual working in KXCV radio station at time of application.
3. Demonstrate financial need

Eckert Collegiate Journalism Scholarship
Description: Journalism student with a minimum of 3.0 GPA
1. Based on need
2. Academic accomplishments
3. Journalistic service
Deadline: March


T.H. Eckert English/Journalism Scholarship
Description: Junior or Senior Journalism major with a minimum 3.0 GPA
Based on leadership/contribution to Northwest Missourian
Deadline: March

All applications should also include:
1. A typed application form (available in WH 237)
2. Resume showing media outlets experience
3. Writing sample pertaining to future goals, career expectations, etc.

All application materials must be typed and returned to
Wells Hall 237 by 4:00 p.m. on the due date.
