Recreation Programs  @ HPERD

Admissions Requirements 

Students desiring to pursue a degree in recreation must make a formal declaration through the Office of the Registrar and have a recreation faculty advisor.  This step is accomplished by having a “Change of Major/Advisor” form on file with the Office of the Registrar.  

Advanced Standing

A student may apply for advanced standing after they have successfully completed 40 credit hours.  Students must meet the following requirements to be admitted to advanced standing:          

The 40 credit hours must be completed with a grade point average of 2.25.

The student must also have completed 45-240 Foundations of Recreation and 45-245 Leisure Services and Special Populations with a grade of “C” or better.

To remain in good academic standing students must maintain a grade point of 2.25 with no grades in the Recreation Core curriculum below a “C”. 

Graduation Requirements

Students must meet the following requirements to complete the graduation requirements for a recreation degree:

Students must have a 2.0 GPA in the University General Studies Core.

Students must complete all of the courses in the Recreation Core with no grades below a “C”.

All students must complete a 200-hour (minimum) Field Experience with a grade of “C” or better.  This requirement must be completed before a student will be allowed to enroll for a Recreation Internship.

All students must complete a 480-hour (minimum), 12 consecutive week Recreation Internship with a grade of “C” or better.

 Students must have completed at least 40 credit hours upper division course work.  Upper division courses are those with course numbers of 300 or above.

 Students must have completed minimum 124 credit hours with a grade point average of 2.25 to graduate with a recreation degree.

Students must have a completed “Senior Deficiency Statement” and  “Application for Degree” on file with the Office of the Registrar.
