Horace Mann Social Skills Information

Horace Mann began implementing Boys Town Education Model in August 2002, so students know exactly what is expected of them on a consistent basis. The model teaches students to accept responsibility for their behavior, respect the rights of others, and how making choices can benefit themselves and others. It gives students a positive self-image and a sense of responsibility.

Teachers and Graduate Assistants have been trained through The Well-Managed Classroom workshop. Instruction is also given to practicum students before they begin their experience in the classroom. The Boys Town Education Model is implemented preschool through sixth grade as well as in the after school programs.

Bearcat Paws can be given to classes in Art, Music, P.E., Library, Guidance and Spanish. Dr. Belcher, Mrs. Hawk and classroom teachers can also give them. They are used to encourage classes to use good social skills in and out of the classroom. Bearcat Paws will be posted outside of the classrooms to show their progress. The class with the most Bearcat Paws at the end of the month will be acknowledged.
