General Music at Horace Mann allows students to explore music at all levels. Through singing, movement, listening and playing, we are developing the creative and analytical aspects of the well-rounded student. The music room is equipped with many musical instruments and learning tools, including xylophones, metallophones, autoharp, piano, music books and a complement of traditional and ethnic percussion instruments. Grades 3 through 6 also master basic notation, ear-training, and playing skills with practice and performance on recorders. Students are regularly assessed on music history, theory and performance skills as outlined by the Missouri Show Me
Standards. Students also have the opportunity to share their talents with the rest of the school and community through the school's Fall and Spring Musical Programs, a cooperative effort between the classroom and special area teachers.
