Early Childhood Center

Mrs. RoAnne Solheim
Early Childhood Center Director
Office: Room 110

The Early Childhood Program is found in the lower level of Brown Hall. The Center is an extension of the Family and Consumer Sciences Department, providing the laboratory for students in the Child & Family Studies and Family and Consumer Sciences Education majors.

The Early Childhood Center offers early care and education for children ages 3-5. In addition, an after school program is available for school-age children. We carry out curricular themes and learn concepts through a wide variety of activities. Art projects, stories, songs, drama, motor activities, snacks, science experiments, and field trips are exciting learning opportunities that are provided for children enrolled in the Early Childhood Center

We believe children learn by doing. The Early Childhood Center provides an enriching environment that works with all the developmental needs of children, including physical, cognitive, language, and social-emotional needs.

We are proud of our accomplishments. We have been licensed and continue to be licensed by the state of Missouri for over 10 years. The Center is nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Our preschool program promotes an environment that fosters physical, cognitive, language, social, and emotional development. These domains are taught through a variety of themes, including colors, seasons, and community. This allows the child to grow in self-confidence, independence, and security while instilling a love of learning. We believe children learn by doing and by discovery.

A specially designed hands-on curriculum includes:

Art and crafts
Games
Stories
Music and movement
Drama
