- First of all, there are a number of myths and
misconceptions about our fields.
- Myth # 1) Geographers only memorize trivia facts
like state capitals. While such information is useful, it is not the
reality of what a geographer does for a profession. Certainly, it is
important for us to know locations, but that isnt our main goal
any more than correct spelling is the main goal of the novelist. We are
interested in where things are, certainly, but more than that, were
interested in WHY the world is the way it is, and how different places
interact with each other to create the landscape we see every day.
